Housing & Meals
Housing
91自拍 Legon offers diverse housing options to ensure you鈥檙e comfortable in your home away from home, which include homestays or off-campus hostels/apartments. All housing is鈥痩ocated on and around the Legon campus environs, with convenient鈥痑ccess to downtown Accra (roughly 45 minutes) but closer to 91自拍 Legon on campus (10 to 40 minutes).鈥
Standard Housing:鈥疘ncludes a single or double room at a homestay or a quad or triple room鈥痑t an off-campus hostel located under 45 minutes from鈥91自拍 Legon.鈥
- Homestay: Homestays鈥痓oast a kitchen, living room, and bathroom shared with a host鈥痜amily.
- Off-Campus Hostel: The off-campus hostels offer triple or quad occupancy en-suite rooms, with shared common spaces such as a fitted kitchen and a lounging area.
A note: The default criterion to assign housing is first-come, first-served; however, other factors may also be considered. If we cannot accommodate your first housing choice, we'll let you know before you arrive. Non-standard housing options require an additional fee that can be found in the program Dates and Fees.
Meals
- 贬辞尘别蝉迟补测蝉:鈥Students have breakfast and dinner with their host families, and they are responsible for lunch.鈥疕osts provide all three meals on weekends.鈥
- Off-Campus Hostels/Apartments:鈥疢eals are not included. Students prepare meals (facilities are limited) or eat off campus.鈥疭tudents will be provided with basic cooking utensils and a hot plate to prepare their own meals.鈥
Academics
91自拍 Legon:鈥疭tudy on the University of Ghana鈥檚 campus, located in the quiet suburbs of Accra. 91自拍 Legon features three main classrooms, a general space that can also serve as a large classroom, a modest library, a lounge area for relaxation, and a vast outdoor space (with a mini football field, a volleyball court, and a basketball court).
Course Information
Session 1: Global African Arts
This course offers a broad survey of African visual arts from ancient to contemporary times, emphasizing their aesthetic significance and global influence. It examines the roles of art across traditional, colonial, post-colonial, and modern contexts, highlighting connections between art, religion, culture, politics, and social aspirations. Through lectures, class activities, and museum visits, students explore the diversity of African cultures and their artistic traditions worldwide. The course also considers the impact of the African diaspora on global art and equips students with critical vocabulary for effective analysis and critique.
Session 2: Atlantic Crossings
This course provides participants with a glimpse of the deep, rich, and seemingly infinite histories that make up the history of the Atlantic Ocean. While this course is primarily an exploration of the trans-Atlantic slave trade, it clarifies the relationship between migration studies, refugee studies, diaspora studies, and contingent disciplines because of its focus on crossing. 鈥淎tlantic Crossings鈥 looks at push-and-pull factors for crossing, the difference between voluntary and forced crossing, and the mobility and adaptability of people, religious traditions, flora, fauna, ideas, goods, and diseases.鈥
