91�� Barcelona offers diverse housing options to ensure you’re comfortable in your home away from home. From homestays to shared apartments to residence halls, we strive for your accommodation preferences to be met. Additionally, all housing options are located in neighborhoods with convenient access to public transportation, shops, cafés, and eateries.  

Standard Housing: Includes a single room in a homestay or at residence hall located in Barcelona or the metropolitan area within a 60-minute commute by public transportation to the 91�� Center. Homestays feature a kitchen, living room, and bathroom shared with a host family. Residence Halls boast shared kitchens, common areas, and laundry facilities shared with other students. 

Select Housing: Includes a double room at a shared apartment located in Barcelona within a 35-minute commute by public transportation to the 91�� Center. Apartments boast shared kitchens, common areas, and laundry facilities shared with other students. Select housing requires an additional fee.  

Select Plus Housing: Includes a single room at a residence hall or a shared apartment located in Barcelona within a 35-minute commute by public transportation to the 91�� Center. Residence halls boast shared kitchens, common areas, and laundry facilities shared with other students. Select Plus housing requires an additional fee.   

A note: The default criterion to assign housing is first-come, first-served; however, other factors may also be considered. If we cannot accommodate your first housing choice, we'll let you know before you arrive. Non-standard housing options require an additional fee that can be found in the program Dates and Fees. 

Meals

��ǳ��ٲ��: Students have breakfast and dinner with their host families, and they are responsible for lunch. Students are not typically permitted to use the stovetop/oven at the host family home.

91�� Barcelona: Study near Barcelona’s main square, Plaça Catalunya, on a beautiful pedestrian passageway, only minutes from cafés, restaurants, and important cultural attractions. 91�� Barcelona features classrooms, a student lounge, conference rooms, and charming 19th-century terraces where students can relax outdoors.

Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) is a highly ranked public university in Barcelona created in 1990 by the Autonomous Government of Catalonia. At UPF, students can take courses with local students through the Department of Economics and Business administration, or with other international students at the Barcelona Program for Interdisciplinary Studies (BaPIS). All courses are usually held at Ciutadella Vila Olímpica Campus.

On-Program Requirements

Academic Culture

Studying abroad may differ from being on a U.S. campus, as the academic culture in a city implies that students commute daily from their accommodation to the 91�� premises and to the host institution facilities. Commuting is a very important part of life in this European city!

The course schedule usually runs from Monday to Thursday from 8:30 AM to 8:30 PM and students may be enrolled in courses at any time. Although classes are usually not scheduled on Fridays, some courses may have required academic activities on those days.  &�Բ��;

Time management is paramount while studying abroad. Courses are academically challenging and involve daily reading, assignments and compulsory attendance.

Class Format

Courses at 91�� Barcelona are attended by 91�� students exclusively. Typical class sizes for 91�� courses are no more than 16 students in Spanish language courses, and no more than 30 students in elective courses.  &�Բ��;

There are two types of UPF courses offered: UPF-BaPIS (Barcelona Program for Interdisciplinary Studies) and UPF:

UPF BaPIS courses include other international students and typically meet twice a week for two hours. The typical class size for UPF BaPIS courses is 15-30 students.
UPF regular classes may include up to 90 local students. Courses are part of a bigger plan of studies for local students.

Grading

In 91�� and UPF-BaPIS courses, students are evaluated based on class participation, in-class activities, homework assignments, exams, papers, and oral presentations. In regular UPF courses, students are typically graded on class participation, problem sets or projects, and a final exam. In UPF-BaPIS and regular UPF courses, professors grade on a 10-point scale, which 91�� converts to recommended U.S. letter grade equivalents. &�Բ��;

Individual courses may have additional prerequisites; for 91�� courses, these are listed in the syllabi below. Students are responsible for having their own course approval conversations with their advisors. Your study abroad advisor and 91�� staff can help you understand your course options if you don't see a recommendation that fits your course needs.
